Clean Up Australia Day
Every year since 2001, FCC has helped to clean up the Yarra River, Melbourne, Australia for Clean Up Australia Day.
All sorts of craft take to the water fully armed with rubber gloves, plastic bags and
hooked sticks ready to pull any rubbish from the water and riverbanks on either side of the
Yarra.
In 2001, the biggest haul was 20 golf balls from near the Fairfield Golf Course and on the way back
to the club, the C7 and C10 boats, fully laden with rubbish, challenged the rest of the boats
at Zoli's Sunday Session to a final sprint for home.
The weather was less kind for Clean Up Australia Day 2002 though there was a good turnout of club members
to clean up the Yarra and enjoy a BBQ afterward at the club.
FCC joined in the fun again on 2 March 2003 and continues to keep Australia and especially
the Yarra, clean.
